Hike 08/14

The Lake, looking east. Once we got to the lake, we saw many Gentians, in various stages of bloom. Wolf spiders abounded, as usual. We saw many, many froglets and tadpoles, of at least three species.
Along the trail, we would often disturb a couple dozen or more of these grasshoppers. Probably Melanoplus sanguinipes. White Bog-orchid Platanthera dilatata Sasquatch footprint. Seriously, I walked by the footprints, in a wide, muddy part of the stream, and wondered why someone would walk there. A few minutes later we came upon a large pile of bear poop. Mystery solved! And here's an explanation of the bear's presence.
